“Start of Something New”

First of all, welcome to my first blog post! I am so excited to start sharing with you all the wonderful things I see, make, and buy (on a budget since I’m a broke college student.) I am  currently a sophomore at the University of Iowa and a member of Kappa Alpha Theta. I recently just switched my major to journalism and English with an entrepreneurial certificate. My dream job would one day be to write for Cosmopolitan (it’s literally the Bible) and run my own business on the side. I absolutely love  fashion and shopping, and am always down to find a good bargain. Fashion has always been near and dear to my heart since I was a child to now when I spend nearly half my money on my wardrobe. Exercising and being outside are some of my favorite things to do, especially with my best friend- my mom. She is honestly a God send and is an inspiration for me. I know that may sound cheesy (it definitely does) but she is the Lorelai to my Rory- also Gilmore Girls binge watcher. My dad is a vet, so we have tons of furry members of our family, one of them being our spoiled dog Addison. She is definitely the baby of the family. All in all our family may not be big, but it is the foundation and support system for all my dreams and ambitions in my life.

My Favorite Winter Styles

Winter is one of the longest seasons for us here in the midwest- wish I was on a beach instead. There are many staples I have accumulated in my closest to stay warm and cozy that show some style; here are some of my favorites!

  1. Cowl Neck Sweaters

Pic 1Cowl neck sweaters are super chic and fun to wear throughout the cold months. They look dressy without much effort. This sweater I’m wearing came from Glik’s boutique in a town near me, but there are some super cute and affordable ones available at Nordstrom.com for around $30.

2.Fuzzy Vests

Fuzzy vests are a necessity for either a night out on the town or a more casual dinner with your parents. Pairing my fuzzy vest with an all black outfit dramatically draws your attention to the vest. This vest is from DryGoodsUSA for approximately $50.

3. Red Hunter Boots

IMG_2570I received these boots as a present and have fallen in love with them since. Hunter Boots are the perfect accent to any outfit. I love wearing them when I have to walk to class and the weather is super wet or muddy. The red brightens up any outfit, and manages to go with a lot of different colors. You can also purchase the boots socks I’m wearing to keep your feet even warmer on those cold mornings. Boots $150. Socks $50.

4. Graphic Tees

Graphic tees can be worn anytime of the year if paired with a cute shirt or jacket. In this picture I paired it with a plaid shirt from DryGoodsUSA for $35. My graphic tee was recently purchased at Madewell.com for $38. This tee is super comfy and fun. Also, add a cute pom hat to stay warm for $25.

P.S TREAT!!!!!!! Strawberry Jello Cupcakes

Since today is National Strawberry Day and strawberries are one of my favorite foods, I thought I would share with you one of my favorite treats to make .

IMG_2713

Ingredients:

White Cake Mix (Hy Vee)

3 Eggs Whites

Vegtable Oil (1/3 cup)

Water (1-1/4 cups)

Whipped Topping

Strawberry Sugar Free Jello Mix

Foil Cup Cake Liners

Strawberries!!!

To start preheat your oven to 350. Blend together your cake ingredients (cake mix, egg whites, vegetable oil, water) until the batter becomes thick. Fill your foil cups in your muffin pan to about half full of batter. Place in oven for approximately 20-25 minutes or until cooked all the way through. As cup cakes are baking make liquid Jello by mixing Jello mix with a cup of boiling water for 2 minutes then add a cup of cold water. After the cupcakes are done and have cooled for about half and hour poke holes in the cup cakes with a tooth pick, then pour (slowly) the liquid Jell0 over the cup cakes until it has soaked into them. Add whipped topping to the top and decorate with a strawberry or I chose to add some cute sprinkles and place in the fridge to cool for a couple hours. After they have hardened a bit, enjoy!! This is a super yummy dessert, that doesn’t have many calories or fat content depending on the products you purchase.
